This policy explains what information the Chatterpop app uses, why, and the choices you have. It covers the app on iPhone. Our website has its own short website privacy notice.
Who we are
Chatterpop is made by Jellyquill Ltd ("Jellyquill", "we", "us"). For UK and EU data protection law, we are the controller of the personal information described here.
Jellyquill Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16395975. Registered office: 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. You can reach us about privacy through our contact form (choose "Privacy"), or by post at our registered office.
What Chatterpop stores on your iPhone
To work, Chatterpop saves the following on your device:
- your game progress: levels played, stars and unlocked games
- the words you've met and how well you know each one, so the game knows when to bring a word back
- your choices: the language you're learning, your daily goal, sound and reminder settings
- how much free play you've used today, and whether you've used a free trial
This information stays on your iPhone. We don't receive it and can't see it. It is included in your iPhone's iCloud or computer backups, which Apple's own privacy terms cover. Deleting Chatterpop deletes it.
Purchases and subscriptions
Chatterpop Plus is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment under Apple's privacy policy. We don't receive your name, email address or card details.
To check whether you have Chatterpop Plus, and to restore it on a new device, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA), which acts as our processor. RevenueCat receives:
- a random identifier that the app creates, which isn't linked to your name, email or Apple Account
- App Store transaction details: which plan you bought, when, the price and currency, and your App Store country
- basic technical details such as the app version, iOS version, device model and IP address, which every internet connection uses
We use this only to give you the plan you paid for. The legal basis is that it's needed to provide the service you've bought (performance of a contract).
Reminders
If you allow notifications, Chatterpop schedules reminders on your iPhone, for example a daily practice reminder or a note before a free trial ends. They are created on your device. We don't run a notification server and don't receive anything about them. You can turn them off at any time in the app or in iPhone Settings.
What we never do
- Show ads, or use your device's advertising identifier
- Track you across other companies' apps or websites
- Use analytics or crash-reporting tools that identify you
- Access your microphone, camera, photos, contacts or location
- Sell, rent or share your personal information
Information Apple shares with us
Apple gives every developer summary reports, such as download and sales totals by country. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple also sends us crash reports and usage statistics. These reports don't identify you, and you can switch sharing off under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
If you contact us
When you send us a message, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, your message and anything you choose to include. We use it only to answer you and fix problems you report. Our website host, Cloudflare, runs the contact form and its spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile); Resend delivers the message to our inbox; and our email provider stores it. Each acts as our processor. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in helping our players.
Children
Chatterpop is suitable for all ages. It has no accounts, chat or sharing, and doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. Purchases go through Apple, so parents can use Ask to Buy and Screen Time to control spending. If you're a parent with a question, please use our contact form.
Where data goes
RevenueCat processes subscription data in the United States. Where UK or EU data protection law applies, transfers are protected by safeguards such as the Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum, set out in RevenueCat's data processing agreement. Cloudflare, Resend and our email provider may also process messages you send us outside the UK, including in the United States, under similar safeguards.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Progress and settings on your iPhone | Until you delete the app |
| Subscription records held by RevenueCat | While your subscription is active, then as long as needed for accounting and tax law (up to 6 years in the UK) |
| Messages you send us | Up to 2 years after we last hear from you |
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Use our contact form (choose "Privacy") or write to us at our registered office, and we'll reply within one month. Because we don't hold accounts, we may need a detail from you (such as the date you subscribed) to find any records.
If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law: we don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office or the data protection authority where you live.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters to how your information is used, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
